Bayern Munich and Real Madrid dumped the two remaining English clubs out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, setting up an intriguing battle for a spot in the final. This is almost definitely the tougher of the two semi finals, so it feels like the winner of this matchup might go all the way.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid meet in the UEFA Champions League semifinals on Tuesday having both seen off Premier League sides to get to this point. The German juggernauts edged past Arsenal in the quarterfinals while the Spanish giants needed penalties to eliminate defending titleholders Manchester City. This week's first leg at Allianz Arena sees Bayern needing a UCL final appearance to save their season while Real are on the verge of recapturing the La Liga title. Thomas Tuchel's men do not even have DFB Pokal success to target while Carlo Ancelotti's side also missed out on domestic cup glory in the Copa del Rey. Harry Kane will look to build on his 400-goal career achievement as Bayern try to maintain a 15-game unbeaten home run in the Champions League although Real are on an 18-game unbeaten run across all competitions.
Bayern: Alphonso Davies is back after his ban against Arsenal which required Noussair Mazraoui and Raphael Guerreiro to fill in admirably. Sacha Boey, Gabriel Marusic, Bouna Sarr and Tarek Buchmann are all out while Tuchel is not yet 100% certain to have Konrad Laimer or Matthijs de Ligt available. Jamal Musiala is also a doubt along with Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Dayot Upamecano and Kingsley Coman but only the France international has been ruled out so far.Potential Bayern XI: Neuer; Kimmich, Kim, Dier, Davies; Goretzka, Pavlovic; Muller, Musiala, Gnabry; Kane.
Real: Ancelotti should be boosted by Jude Bellingham's return from illness while Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy should also be back which means Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba are the only major absentees. Lunin should continue in goal while Bellingham, Rodrygo and Mendy are likely to return to the starting XI. Dani Carvajal is suspended, though, which is likely to mean a start for Lucas Vazquez in Munich.Potential Real XI: Lunin; Vazquez, Rudiger, Tchouameni, Mendy; Valverde, Camavinga, Kroos; Bellingham; Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior.
Both teams have played each other 26 times in the competition. Bayern slightly edges the head-to-head record with 12 wins compared to Madrid’s 11. Three matches have ended in a draw.
Madrid should arrive well rested after the Spanish league moved its game at Real Sociedad to Friday, which Madrid won 1-0.
With Madrid set to win Spain’s domestic title, coach Carlo Ancelotti kept Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Júnior, Eduardo Camavinga, Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde, Antonio Rudiger and goalkeeper Andriy Lunin on the bench at the start of the league game in San Sebastian. Forward Rodrygo did not travel with the team because of the flu.
